The best OS is the amiga emulator...
WINUAE
run workbench on yiour PC for a while, and you will all switch. I think the next year will show winuae as the top of the charts. Us elite users already know this.
And I agree with what others are saying about the terms being too ambiguous. "Leopard" searches will also relate to the animal, and "Vista" searches will also relate to countless Spanish sites.
Better to seek out actual sales data and research the market trends than to rely on Google for something like this.
I cannot understand why is it for in first case and what applications other than open office, Firefox, Mail client,IM that can run on it perfectly on it.
I just tried Ubuntu Studio that packages a lot of multimedia applications that supports wider but limited range of media editing.
security flaws,
limited 2D graphics gui only,
being quite a few years outdated,
less stability,
less speed,
costs more cash to begin with,
limited licenses,
less than innovative design,
the list goes on. I could get really technical...
XP is just -so- good. Why did I start using this Ubuntu thing anyway? I mean, there’s nothing cool about MythTV, CompizFusion, or even easily downloading organized lists of open source and proprietary software. Man, if only I had less control over my computer. Making my own decisions can really be a hassle. Could someone tell me what I want? Please?
I run Ubuntu on one machine (out of 6) in my house and while it works fine for basic chores like email it hardly has the polish or poise of XP.
Like it or not Microsoft is by far the dominant OS, indeed if we are to quibble then you could say Vista and XP results should be combined into one graph.
Oh my we cant do that....everyone not running a Microsoft OS would flat line off the charts.
Oh and don’t bother with the typical "sheep" or "lemmings" comments from the Linux or OS X crowd. People buy what is simple to use and gets the job done, it does not make them stupid or uneducated or anything else but reasonable.
Get over it. Microsoft wins again.
gentoo requires a lot more config and troubleshooting, so no wonder that people search this term more often.
same thing with pclinux vs. ubuntu- if i’m a beginner with linux i search for pclinux once and since everything works out of the box i don’t bother to search any more. for ubuntu i have to figure out how to install mp3 support, dvd support, beryl etc. so of course i use google more often.
but maybe i just misunderstood your explanation of "popularity"
When I do that on Google, only 7 of the first 20 hits for "vista" are related to "Microsoft Windows Vista" at all. The rest is for things such as "Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy" or "VISTA MAGAZINE—THE MAGAZINE FOR ALL HISPANICS".
Compare this to Ubuntu: 18 out of the first 20 are related to the GNU/Linux distribution.
How do you filter people searching for the City of Vista, California???
If I understand your methodology correctly, it’s a nice idea, but inaccurate and flawed...
Even then, most people just refer to the OS as a Mac. Ubuntu is Ubuntu, whatever way you look at it.

You must use "suse"... not opensuse... this is because the people search in tis way....
And I say.. that I’m a Ubuntu’s user!!
