Youtube can be bad because of simplicity
Recently while stumbling for Star Wars clips on there I came across a fan-film entitled "Star Wars - A False Hope" which I watched, didn't find amusing but thought I'd blog it and put it on the site (see here) for regular readers of the site to visit and see what they think. By posting it I felt that while I didn't like it, some readers may.
But then the "actress" found out
As you can see from the comments, the girl in the flick found the site and took my disliking to the video personally. The worst of my review was "It's nice and satirical but the production values are astonishingly bad. The acting horrendous and the humour tired and too familiar".
Oli (who got the first comment) liked it, but never-the-less, Jillian decided to assault me personally rather than attack my work.
This highlighted the flaw with Youtube
If you start a site or a blog, you typically appreciate the fact that there will always be people who dislike your work - it's the same thing you get from any high-visibility activity. Authors, celebrities, bloggers, artists, musicians - they all do work that some people will dislike but the effort involved in getting their thoughts out into the world means they understand that.
Youtube on the other hand, makes it so easy for users to put their content online that I feel the majority of users on there aren't used to/prepared for criticism. I suppose you can say the same for blogging but I've not received quite the same personal assault from a fellow blogger.
