When good websites go bad - introduction

Welcome to my new series of articles entitled "when good websites go bad" where I'll be looking at the very worst elements of the internet. Obviously I'm not looking at spyware, porn or viruses - but more when perfectly good sites go wrong through poor UI design, implementation or just flat out bad planning.

The premise
The internet is filled with websites, some of them very good, some of them very bad and billion sites inbetween. I'm fully aware (as a web developer) that there are many things to be learned from looking at the best and the worst. I intend to find some good examples of "how to" and "how not to" have a website.

What I am looking for
It's all too easy to find the very worst websites on the internet (although I will be doing some of that for giggles) but finding sites that degrade as gracefully as Paris Hilton on a night out and sites that fail miserably on basic usability/accesibility criteria - these are what I'm going to investigate.

Episodes
Episode one - graceful degrading (coming within 24 hours)
Episode two - UI design
Episode three - Multimedia disaster
Episode four - High profile problems
Episode five onwards - TBC
