The 'revive a blog' experiment - introduction
It's a harsh truth that the time spent researching and authoring blog posts is not typically profitable; if a post takes an hour to write it needs to earn £35 to be at least as profitable as my freelance web-development work. Which, for almost every post you write is very unlikely.
Distaste for the blogosphere
I hate to say it, but I largely left the blogging world because I grew tired of it. My peers seemed keen on mastabatory posts about how excellent they are, how much they make and plugging any level of affiliate deals that came their way. No one wrote posts about how to be a better blogger or constructive criticsm of technique anymore; so I grew tired of the environment and left.
The question is, can you revive a blog?
The state of things now
I've not written anything at all for 12 months on the site and it has suffered as a result. Visits are low (Analytics reporting 15.3k for July 2010 compared to 21.8k in 2009 or 29k in 2007. Income is down in Adsense to $25.94 in July from $148.15 in July 2008 and $338.63 in July 2007. So, can things be picked up within a month?
Watch this space for updates. In my downtime from work and freelance I'm going to be writing content and driving traffic. I'll be posting my updates as we go along; can I get back to over 25,000 visits within one month of trying? Can I double my current 15k? Let's see.
