Seopher v5 released - new design is live
While the article wasn't perfect it was pretty decent (or so I thought). Although it got buried on Digg (see the Digg story here) so that was a bit of a downer, but the biggest problem was 3 people saying the site was ugly. So here we have the redesign.
I aimed at something cleaner, lighter and more usable
The old design had a large background image that gave the site character; unfortunately that image was quite heavy and didn't do good things for load times or bandwidth. So the new design is using the same general branding, colours and theme. The layout has generally stayed the same and many aspects have been inherited from version 4.3.
The commenting system remains exactly the same, as does the searching. So basically it's a CSS change as much as anything but I've re-written a lot of the day-to-day PHP stuff so it's a lot more object oriented (and a lot more MySQL friendly too).
Let me know of any problems
The design has literally just gone live so it's likely to have a few teething problems so please throw them into a comment against this article or drop me an email at steven.york@seopher.com. If you've anything to say; like it or loath it then please let me know.
I'll be writing new content now that the redesign is done, so watch this space.

Hope this helps.
Well I noticed anyway.
- overlapping divs
- on sidebar, gray on dark green
- on sidebar, font sizes too large, consider ~13px ( but use em’s )
- promo div with containing table, floating between sidebar and content
- logo sucks, I don’t even know what you were going for in the background of the text.
This is on OSX, w/ Firefox 2.0 + AdBlock Plus
Good luck on the next round of revisions.
