Relisys 32" LCD HD TV review (RLT32AG20)

The LCD TV market is a fast moving and competative place these days; with consumers itchy to part with their hard earned cash for "high definition" entertainment. As a consequence manufacturers are releasing bigger and better screens for increasingly little money and it just so happens that we came into possession of this gem.

Forgive the lateness of this review but we received this particular television around a year ago for another publication and I've only just got around to voicing my personal opinion on here because of the recent price drop.

When we received this shining example of modern electronics it was retailing at around ?1,000 ($2,000) but now they can be found for around ?350 ($700) and that makes it an absolute bargain.

What a handsome unit
The most striking feature about this unit is that it is aesthetically pleasing - an important factor when it's likely to be the focal point of your living/media room. There are countless 32" TV's on the market but I don't want one that looks like it was assaulted with a 1980's hi-fi. The Relisys TV looks sleek and futuristic and all who saw it commented on how "expensive" it looked.

Build Quality
Couldn't be faulted at all. The base looks flimsy but was surprisingly sturdy. The remote control was of the highest quality and easily withstood a couple of months worth of being thrown in the air and caught again (something I do as a "fiddling" mechanism while watching films).

Picture Quality
Was understandably excellent (well, it should be, the TV comes HD ready with the standard HDMI port). The picture was clean and crisp and (most importantly) didn't look awful when displaying normal footage. One of the key problems with large LCD HD screens is that non-HD videos look apalling; comparable with telesync'ed pirated videos. So having a 42/52/60+ inch screen is amazing but if you don't have a lot of HD content then you'll be wasting your money in my opinion. Fortunately the Relisys managed rather well with normal day-to-day use.

Conclusions of this affordable Relisys LCD HD TV

We had the TV for a couple of months and it's fair to say that it was put through it's paces. It handled everything we threw at it with style and with it's "stop and look" aesthetics I find it an almost irresistible purchase.

Unfortunately...
Unfortunately Relisys Digital went into administration late last month and therefore finding these TV's can be problematic. It's also likely that you'll run into problems with warranties too (as most sellers will refer you to the manufacturer if possible - which is a problem now). Therefore I can't help but think that an excellent manufacturer has died. This was an excellent TV; stylish, affordable and very good quality and I would buy one. I can't help but think that if we just held onto that TV for just a bit longer (rather than sending it back to Relisys) that they would just let us keep it now. Never mind. An excellent TV for the money and no doubt they can be had for absolutely peanuts now so if you fancy a gamble - go for it.

I'm a big fan of consumer electronics so I'll always be on the lookout for things to review, if you have anything of interest please feel free to contact me.
