PageRank update was less than friendly
Not that I'm bitter but I am slightly frustrated that some serious shameless self promotion and hard work didn't help me win a pagerank of more than 2. Yes, Seopher.com was updated from PR0 to PR2. I assume this was solely because Google didn't want me to get a nosebleed from the height of sitting atop a PR3. The IWebTool.com pagerank predictor estimated the site as being a PR6 originally, then a PR5. So what went wrong?
Good points about 2006
- 7 articles made the front page of Digg
- A couple made the front page of Reddit
- 10 or so made it onto the front page of LinuxToday.com
- Seopher.com was accepted into the 9Rules community
- Linked from JohnChow.com
- Linked from the Spanish Enquirer
Clearly not enough
Clearly those factors weren't enough. I wanted to believe this was because of the relative young age of the site (having only started in April '06) but my good friend Oli at ThePCSpy started his KittenAuth site the very same night I started Seopher, which received a full blown PR6.
Never mind, ay?
Well, this will only motivate me to continue pushing the site towards global domination so this is probably going to be something I reflect back on as a positive thing. Anyway, PR2 is better than PR0 so things are moving in the right direction.

You’re not the only person that’s been "done over" by this update round. A lot of people are looking at their pagerank and giving an audible "what the f**k". The speculation mongers are saying they’ve updated their ranking mechanisms to use different data but I don’t know how true that it. The only people that know will work for Google.
I really think Google need to help people getting their shit down better. I know that a search engine should fairly provide their results without allowing people to get themselves unfairly ranked but at the same time Google knows that everyone that cares the smallest amount about SEO need to have some feedback on whether what they’re doing is working or not... BEFORE a PR update. It’s no good trying one thing and having to wait three-six months time to see what will change.
Either way by the next update you will have had a full season on 9rules, you’ll be out of Google’s sandbox, no doubt have more articles on digg and, I daresay, have more cross-site links in from other bloggers. You’re doing a better job at content than me right now so I’m sure everything will pay off next update when you get PR8 =)
