Linux Mobile Phones - the Ulimate Accessory

My mobile phone is currently a Sony Ericsson P800 - and while this is an excellent phone, it is criminally outdated and suffers undeniably frustrating bouts of lag. This has inevitably led me onto a hunt for a new mobile device, however, I have several constraining factors... But, during my search I have come to think that Linux could (oddly) offer the solution.

I need a smart phone, in more senses than one. The joy of my current P800 phone is that it doubles as a PDA, offering full web browsing and near endless customisability (if such a word existed). I *need* full web browsing because my life sometimes pushes me to need mutlimap at my fingertips to find where i'm supposed to be going. True, SatNav systems can do this but i'm not likely to just carry one around in my pocket am I?

E28 Linux PhoneI need a new phone, but i'm less than impressed with the Treo's and Blackberry's of this world. I am however, impressed by the prospect of Linux phones. This is the biggest step in the right direction I could have possibly imagined... Phones, based on an open source O/S.

Does this mean that we're hurtling towards the days where you can buy a phone that you can modify to your *exact* needs? That the community can develop and produce custom plugins to allow you to do whatever you want, however obscure?

ImCo SysMy excitement continues to grow reading about the prospects. Look at the sexiness of the ImCo Sys (left) and surely you'll agree that having a device you could happily date (well... depends how lonely you are I suppose) in your pocket that may allow you to do *anything* you want is a charming prospect at the very least?

Ultimate geek accessory or ultimate accessory? Exciting times non-the-less that will surely bring Linux more and more into the public eye.

Either way, I need a new phone and can I really wait for these to come out? That is beside the point however, they ARE on the way and i'm taking that as a very positive step indeed. Read more about them here.
