Is the Linux community too passionate - Part II

An article I published on August 6th questioned whether the Linux community was too passionate (link here). The response I received from this article was fantastic and proved that the community itself is indeed passionate - but largely in a good way. It was (reasonably) well read on Digg (58diggs) and was picked up by LinuxToday.

The article pondered whether the uber-fanboys were ruining it for everyone, 'flaming' all those who ask questions to ultimately benefit Linux. As it turns out the community is full of thoughtful individuals, who offered constructive comments on the topic - which was what I was hoping to see.

While the previous article wasn't intended to be an experiment, it still created interesting results. Maybe, the extremists weren't un-earthed because the article didn't state "Linux sucks the fat one" - and therefore fell below their radar. Hopefully, the result was accurate. The result showed that the community was indeed passionate, enthusiastic, and many other words too! But one thing it was not, was arrogant. Nor biggoted.

What I did find, without looking terribly far, was a world of non-violent, respectful users who were more than happy to understand someone else's opinion (which seemed unlikely after previous exploits).

So, well done to the Linux community for showing that there IS actually normality out there in LinuxLand.
