Is Technorati dying?

Tecnorati is a popular site which collates all your backlinks and applies a ranking based on the number found. Many third party companies use your Technorati rank as a metric for how popular your site is, but it's become increasingly apparent through September that Technorati might actually be dying.

Unless you are one of the top couple of sites then the chances are that your site is no longer being accurately indexed by Technorati; mine certainly isn't. It's picked up ONE of my posts in the past month and as a consequence my ranking is starting to slip. Taking a quick look at their help and support forums indicates that there are an AWFUl lot of people in the same boat. What's more: I've read 15-20 of these support notes and only seen 1 picked up by an admin and tackled. Everyone else has been left in the dark. Some have been unable to have their new content indexed for more than a hundred days.

I appreciate that Technorati is a free service but it seems like a complete ghost ship at the moment. There are no admins answering support requests and most sites seem unable to be pinged. It's a bit of a problem.

Seopher.com has been prosperous lately, considering the world went crazy for my 40 coolest free applications post yet I've not received any ranking increase - just updates for new people linking to old posts. It just looks like Technorati is in a spot of bother at the moment.

To be fair, there's absolutely no point for me having a site in Technorati at the moment if they're completely unable to index my content and update my rank. It's only for the benefit of ReviewMe and bragging rights that I have an account anyway, and if they're no longer able to honour the ranking then I might as well leave. We'll see.
