Is Google translate on your site? Maybe think twice
Up until recently I'd not bothered to review them under the premise that having them there is better than not. Although today I'm not so sure. I found my recently Dugg article on a Spanish social bookmarking site (comparable to Netscape) and found myself unable to read the translated introduction (sometimes you just want to know what they're saying about you...)
I decided to throw the site into Google Translate and see what it came out with (because this would give me a nice indication of not only what was being said about me but how well the translations on Seopher.com were performing.
How was my Google Translate performing?
The Spanish content was saying:
"En el art?culo Acer explica como echarle mierda encima a un cliente, si le pides el port?til sin Vista van y te cobran m?s por el trabajo de quitarlo... Eficaz, si se?or, solo por eso es un motivo para no comprar Acer, no porque te obliguen a comprar Vista (cada empresa decide que vende y que no y en que condiciones) sino porque encima te toma el pelo."
The Google Translation into English was giving me this rather unreadable mess of words:
"In the Acer article it explains as to throw excrement to him it raises to a client, if you request the portable one to him without Vista go and they receive more to you by the work to clear it… Effective, if Sir, single for that reason is a reason not to buy Acer, because they do not force to you to buy Vista (each company decides that it sells and that not and in which conditions) but because above it takes the hair you."
My favourite bit has to be to throw excrement to him it raises to a client and the ever-so-british Effective, if Sir, single for that reason is a reason not to buy Acer. I'd love to know what it *actually* translates into but as far as I'm concerned - the output is largely unreadable and gives very little away as to what the article was actually about.
So don't be surprised if Google Translate suddenly disappears off the site. If someone could give me a more accurate idea of what the spanish paragraph says then I can more accurately measure the performance of Google Translate. But for now - I'm thinking it's pants. What are your thoughts?
