How to improve your Chitika earnings

Chitika is an interesting CPC based addition for you to "turn pageviews into profit" but it's much less documented than Google's adsense. There are so many sites offering the "best paying adsense keywords" which I find slightly useless - not everyone can seamlessly fit legal terminology into their posts. Chitika is a good notion - displaying products to entice users to investigate but how can you improve yours?

Tip #1 - Customise the topics
Don't bother letting it automatically deturmine what to display, tell it. An article here tells you how. This allows you to define which products are displayed.

Tip #2 - Target popular products
Because you're telling Chitika specifically what to look for, you have the ability to target popular products that the majority of your users would be interested in. Tech sites do well to target things like the iPhone.

For extra assistance (if you're out of touch with the community) have a look around Google and eBay for the most popular searches and cater to those. This should help increase the number of clicks.

adsense positioning Tip #3 - Positioning
As always positioning is crucial. As far as I'm concerned the Google Adsense positioning guide is the best available. Because it focuses on where users are more likely to click it applies to other adverts as much as it does adsense.

Tip #4 - Styling
Once it's in the right place and showing the best content you'll need to style it to look consistent with the rest of your site otherwise it'll stick out like a sore thumb. Personally, I only went as far as styling the links but I'm sure you could edit the font as well (although be sure to check with the Terms and Conditions first).

Tip #5 - T and C
Dull it may be but breaching the Terms and Conditions is going to land you in trouble. Although rumour has it that Chitika don't ban people from their network I don't believe it. So to maintain your earnings, don't breach the T's and C's.

Conclusion
Five quick and simple tips to allow you to target specific topics and products for maximum clicks based on the category of your site. No need to flirt around the topic, do these things and you should see some noticable increases.
