Firefox Takes Over
Globally, the Firefox market is substancially less, sitting in IE's shadow; but even IE is having it's heels nipped by Opera on this site. IE has around 11%, Opera 10.8%.
Quantifying the market share of the fox has been stated as being "like nailing down jello", estimating the it to be in the 10-15% range, but how accurate is this? It seems that the usage is (fairly obviously) much higher in the 'community'. Firefox may not be everyone's cup of tea but as i've said numerous times before, progress in a new direction is only ever going to be a good thing. It challenges people to question what they think is the best, it pressures existing manufacturers to 'up their game'. The same situation ni the commercial market also causes price wars, battling financially for a larger market share.
This makes me want to question whether Firefox getting a more substancial foothold than reports indicate? Or is it just that the nature of Seopher.com attracts Firefox users? Personally, I use Opera so i'm not even assisting the statistics. It could be argued that because there is a lot of Linux based content, that IE is losing out because of that, which could indeed be true, but less than 40% of this site's visitors use Linux (or, are indentified as using Linux).
These are exciting times for Firefox, whether you're thinking locally at seopher.com or globally, their market share is increasing (although probably not as much as my server logs indiciate) but they are gaining an ever stronger foothold in a very wide world.
