Essential reading from a Dot com mogul
Epic Traffic
Firstly let me clarify that this blog in question is very popular, ranked 3,380 on the Alexa traffic index and was (until recently) a regular appearance on social bookmarking site Digg. However, Mr. Chow is not without his enemies which ultimately meant his blog is now banned from Digg (see the article I wrote on the topic here. However, he maintains a high level of traffic which is has earned him a real level of respect with myself. To be fair, someone who has this many followers is surely worth a second of your time? Technorati ranks him as "Rank: 1,432 (2,229 links from 1,003 blogs)" so maybe he has a valid point or two.
Who is he?He's the man who started The Techzone and the TTZ advertising network amongst others but his real respect (for me as a fellow writer) comes in how his blog has transformed into one of the most succesful examples around. He famously was on the Digg front page 7 times in 10 days through the strength of his content - which clearly became a "sore" topic for those petty enough to action their jelousy.
So why should I read it?
Well there's a few good reasons why people of differing interests should read his blog:
He offers excellent advice on maximising your web-based income
Some of the best advice available for webmasters of any size site is available through his archives, from adsense placement to alternative networks - he writes on the topics in a very honest and open way which is rare in today's world. He offers statistics from his personal experiments to support his claims which should translate nicely to whatever site it is you're running.
It's great motivation
He's living proof that whatever you attempt can bring good fortune. Even if you just look at his personal blog, it went from moderate traffic (that was actually 50% below November's traffic for this site) to being one of the most visited blogs on the internet. He proves it is possible and he is open enough to explain how.
General advice
He writes about what he knows - as embodied by the presence of the How to start a tech site article. That's what makes me return to his blog time and time again, because the content is so varied, honest and invariably useful.
Why is this post written?
Well I'd been contemplating writing a "read his blog" post for a while because I find it's made me more motivated in general but he's been asking for reviews so I was more than happy to oblige. He's also offering a prize for the best review, which I couldn't care less about - I don't want money or respect or anything, I just want to send some people in his direction because I really believe his content makes a difference. Not that I feel this will be the best review in the world anyway - being written prior to lunch on Christmas Eve!
Don't forget me
So what are you waiting for? Visit his homepage JohnChow.com and have a read around and see if it's a place you feel you should visit. If so - pass on the word.
