6 clever ways to get paid for blogging

It's almost a Utopian situation - being paid for your opinions. Being paid for writing conventionally is a very lucrative career that often involves a lot of sacrafice, heartache and ultimately being savage. Blogging however has enabled any chump to express their thoughts - even you - so here's how you can make money from it.

Let me specify the concept that I'm discussing; making money purely by writing. This has nothing to do with making a site, putting adverts on it and driving traffic to generate money. This is purely about making money through the act of expressing your opinion. So how can you do it?

#1 - Sell your content for republishing
If your content is good enough and you openly state that there is a negotiable fee to republish your content - someone might just take you up on that offer. As proof, the TechRepublic purchase the rights to republish this article for the sum of $300. It does happen and it's not a bad earner when it happens.

Did you know you can make as much as $250 for a single sponsored post?

#2 - Do some sponsored posts (PayPerPost)
As the snippet above hints, you can make as much as $250 from a single sponsored post should you meet the minimum requirements (which is a little unlikely). On PayPerPost there are high paying opportunities for blogs with a Google Pagerank of 6 and a specific Alexa Rank range. However, more realistically there are loads of opportunities for $5 - $10 for almost anyone to undertake. You can actually make quite a lot of money from PayPerPost if you really try.

#3 - Do some sponsored reviews (ReviewMe)
Sometimes people care about your opinion and are willing to pay you for it. The site ReviewMe is such a place where you list your site and people can pay sums of money for you to review their product/service. Not sure? Read this post from JohnChow on JohnChow.com about his August 2007 online earnings. ReviewMe is a fair old chunk of that money.

#4 - Do some sponsored reviews (ReviewMe campaigns)
This is a little different to the ones described above (although it's still the same ReviewMe company and website). ReviewMe now offer a PayPerPost-style service where people pay for "campaigns". These are offered to every blog within a specific tag (e.g. Technology) and normally pay between $5 and $15 for the post. You don't need to meet any other criteria (besides those set by the reviewer). These too can be a nice way to get some idle income.

Also, did you realise people will hire you as a freelance blogger?

#5 - Get hired to write blogs on a freelance basis
If you know where to look then you can actually get hired to write blogs. A great place to check is the Problogger.net jobs board where a lot of blogging jobs are posted. There are a couple of new listings each day and most will pay you on a per-post basis. You can also check places like Project4Hire for writing jobs (and other freelance job websites) who tend to have similar postings.

#6 - Join CreativeWeblogging (or similar)
CreativeWeblogging are a startup who will pay you monthly to be part of their big blogging network. 7 posts per week are your requirement to get in and it appears that they'll give you more than $200 a month for the pleasure. There are numerous startups like this that induct you into their network and pay you for posts - shop around.

So there you have it, 6 very good ways to get paid simply by blogging irrespective of how much traffic your blog may be getting. Some of them involve reviewing products on your site, some of them involve you posting on someone else's blog. Whatever method, they involve being paid for seemingly little amounts of effort. Indeed they fulfill the basic premise: being paid purely for writing - irrespective of your status.
